Challenge

In 2022 the NCCOR website was an outdated design that lacked user-friendly navigation and no longer effectively showcased NCCOR’s mission to promote research and improve child obesity prevention efforts. It became very clear that there was a crucial need for a more robust search functionality, organization of tools and content, and a visual design that elevated the NCCOR brand.

Approach

I creatively and technically led the web team in crafting a product the client could build upon for years to come. By refreshing their website presence, we decreased the bounce rate by 55% and increased the number of users by 32%. I also implemented the front- and back-end development of the new website providing a system with a range of flexible layouts that would be easily editable in Wordpress.

Equipping communities for success

The NCCOR project is grounded in the creation of tools that help practitioners and providers further their research in childhood obesity thus promoting healthy communities. Through consistent application of the brand, I have led designers in the creation of countless materials for NCCOR that are known and trusted within the research community.

TEAM

Shannon Dyson, Graphic design, Section 508

Highlighting NCCOR’s unique role in facilitating research collaboration, dissemination, and scientific innovation through the annual report was the goal of this task. It needed to convey a sense of connection and science and strengthen engagement with key researchers.

Challenge

This year’s report needed to present a hopeful message while still communicating the significance of the research. I led the visual design of this project ensuring brand parameters, 508-compliance and strong visual elements showcasing active, healthy children.

Continuity is key

Crafting fresh, new designs that continue to inspire while still falling within the brand system is a delicate balance. Photography, content and brand usage all intersect in the design of each report, social media graphic or webpage.
